| Q: |
How much does an estimate cost, and what does it entail? |
| A: |
Our estimates are free, and we will gladly give you prices (and include material brochures) for several roof covering options. Just ask us. |
| Q: |
What is a "square"? |
| A: |
A "square" is a measure of area that roofers use in figuring the size of a roof. A "square" is actually 10' x 10' (100 square feet). Remember that there are other materials (starter, hip, ridge, and sometimes rake shingles) that must also be added into the job size. |

| Q: |
Does my color affect the life of my roof? |
| A: |
No manufacturer reduces the material warranty based upon the color. |
| Q: |
Will I gain any insulation value with the fiberglass shingles? |
| A: |
No, the thickness of the fiberglass mat core in the shingles has no measurable "R-value". |
| Q: |
Can I reroof my house with tile? |
| A: |
Unless you currently have tile on your roof, you will need to have the roof structure "engineered", to see if it can support the weight of tile (1000 lbs per square). Typically the cost for this inspection / report and the necessary structural corrections make it cost prohibitive. |
| Q: |
How long does a typical reroof take? |
| A: |
If we are overlaying a typical composition shingle roof, the usual job duration is 2 to 3 days. We strive to create the least amount of inconvenience to your schedule. |
| Q: |
What does a "tear off" entail? |
| A: |
This entails laying tarps on the ground to protect landscaping. We will need access to your driveway for our dump trailers and therefore request that you move any vehicles from the garage or driveway prior to our arrival. The tearoff typically lasts 4 to 6 hours after which all debris will be picked up and thrown away, leaving the site cleaner than we arrived. Once the tearoff is completed, we will apply a full layer of roofing felt to the roof, leaving no exporsure to a sudden storm, and the new roofing materials will be loaded late that afternoon. The application of the new roofing materials will begin the next morning. |
| Q: |
Do I need to be home? |
| A: |
Actually, during the course of roofing, you probably would rather not be home due to the constant noise from nailing the new roofing in place. You don't have to be home, but we will need access to an electrical outlet for the compressor, saw, and an electric blower for clean up. |
| Q: |
What about my warranty? |
| A: |
Typically we will send your warranty paperwork to you with your final invoice. If you are eligible for the CertainTeed "Sure Star Plus" warranty extension, it will be sent to you directly from the manufacturer. |
